Year-round climate control can be enjoyed with Kelvinator’s range of air conditioners that are suited for large areas of the home. Kelvinator air conditioners are split system air conditioners that are powered by inverter compressors with reverse cycle to deliver both cooling and heating of your home.

Providing ultimate home comfort is easy and doesn’t have to come at a cost to your wallet or the environment. In this blog, we’ll guide you through all the things you need to know before you buy, as well as all the Kelvinator Air Conditioners we love.

What is the difference between a Reverse Cycle and Split System Air Conditioner?

If you’ve been shopping around for a new air conditioner, you would have seen the words ‘Reverse Cycle’ and ‘Split System’ used in many places. Some air conditioners may even feature both in their names, indicating more features than one.

Split System refers to the air conditioner’s build and installation method. A Split System air conditioner contains two units, an indoor and outdoor unit to facilitate the operation of the air conditioner. On the other hand, Reverse Cycle refers to the air conditioner’s dual ability to provide cooling and heating from the one unit.

What is a Split System Air Conditioner?

A Split System Air Conditioner contains two units – an outside unit called the compressor and an inside unit to be hung on the wall that provides the cooling and heating if applicable. Though this is the standard variation, multi-split units also exist, where there are multiple indoor units connected to one single outdoor unit.

It is worth noting that there are 2x types of split system air conditioners, one with Reverse Cycle operation and another type with ‘Cooling Only’ operation.

What is a Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner?

Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners feature dual purpose functions, working to cool and heat the home. Air Conditioners with Reverse Cycle work by extracting heat from outside air before transferring it back into the home during winter; and by extracting heat from inside the house, Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners are able to dissipate it outside, leaving the home cooler than before.

What is an Inverter Air Conditioner?

Conventional compressors run at a constant speed and these types of units vary their capacity by switching on and off at different intervals. Inverter compressors on the other hand, are powered by a variable speed drive or "inverter", which enables the compressor to run at a range of speeds, to match the output required. Inverters improve the performance and energy efficiency of the air conditioner compared to traditional compressors.

How do I choose the right air conditioner size?

An air conditioner’s heating and cooling capacity is typically measured in kilowatts (kW), with a higher number indicating powerful operation. You should consider the below size guide to ensure that the air conditioner is the right one for your space.

As a guide:

Room Size

Cooling and Heating Capacity (kW)

Small room up to 20m2

2 – 2.5

Medium room up to 40m2

2.5 – 5

Large room up to 60m2

4 – 6

Extra-large room 60m2+

5 - 9

Tip: The right air conditioner size will help you save on operational costs. Smaller air conditioners would have to work harder in larger areas, so measure up your space before you go shopping.

What we love about Kelvinator Air Conditioners

Hygienic Climate Control

Stay comfortable and breathe easy with cleaner indoor air thanks to a range of filters found in Kelvinator’s Air Conditioners. The filters include HEPA filters, dust filters and ion filters. Working together, the filters capture and trap large particles, eliminate airborne pollutants like bacteria, viruses and allergens while the ion filter removes odours from the air.

Personalised Climate Control

A range of in-built sensors deliver personalised cooling which ensures greater comfort and enjoyment. For example, with Kelvinator’s Follow Me command, the air conditioner adjusts the cooling or heating accordingly based on the temperature surrounding the remote control’s sensor, just like it’s following you. For best use, always have the remote control close by when using the Follow Me feature!

Kelvinator Connect Smart Control

All of Kelvinator’s Split System Air Conditioners are Wi-Fi enabled, meaning that they can connected to your home Wi-Fi network for remote control via the Kelvinator Home Comfort app. From a touch of your compatible smart device, you can use the app to power on and off the air conditioner, adjust temperatures and modes and change the fan speeds to suit your needs. The app can also be integrated with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so that you can simply use your voice to control your home climate.

Energy Efficiency

As you keep your home comfortable throughout the year, enjoy greater energy efficiency thanks to Kelvinator’s intelligent inverter technology that accurately controls the speed of the compressor to meet the exact settings you have chosen. This therefore ensures that the unit doesn’t use up more energy than it needs to. Some Kelvinator air conditioner models boast up to 5-Star Energy Rating for cooling and heating, meaning that they can help you keep your household’s consumption as efficient as possible.

Long 5-year Warranty

Confidently cool, heat and keep the air clean in your home for longer with Kelvinator’s 5-year warranty. The 5-year warranty period covers the air conditioner’s parts and labour so that if anything goes wrong, rest assured that you’re covered.
