How Often Should I Change My Fridge’s Filter?

Your health and that of your household should be put first ahead of anything else. If the COVID-19 pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that a clean and hygienic home is vital for a healthy and happy lifestyle. Having said that, the one sure way that you can ensure healthier living is by ensuring that your fridge’s water filter is replaced, regularly.

Like your bi-yearly dentist visit, if you don’t keep an eye out and maintain your fridge water filter every 6 months, there’s a chance that the filter will do more damage than good. Consider this your water filter 101, where we explain all the reasons why you need to change your water filter.

The benefits of water filters

Enjoy instant refreshment with clean tasting, filtered water provided by a water filter. Water filters remove a range of harmful substances including bacteria, chlorine, heavy metals and other containments from the water before it reaches you. During operation, water filters may also reduce the metallic taste and cloudiness in your water and ice cubes.

How do water filters work?

Water filters have an activated carbon block which attracts any containments before trapping them, so that by the time the water passes to your glass or water bottle, the water is pure tasting and fresh.

Why should you change the water filter?

Over time, the carbon block inside the filter becomes covered with the containments and so it must be changed to effectively filter your water. If it remains unchanged, the filter cannot treat your water and you risk drinking contaminated water. Other parts of the water filter may experience clogging by dirt and debris, again blocking it from effective filtration.

How often should you change the water filter?

The water filter should be replaced every 4-6 months, depending on how often you use the water dispenser from your fridge. As mentioned above, replacing the filter is vital to ensure that it doesn’t become saturated with contaminants or clogged by dirt and debris. Replacing the water filter in time means less blockage which also reduces the risk of any water leaking or flooding.
