I think one of the most important decisions you’ll make for your kitchen is the cooking appliances. Essentially that’s what the kitchen is there for and having the best possible appliances to suit your needs is a must!

In our previous home we had a gas cooktop. But with no gas line to our current house, and costing an additional $2,000 if we wanted to add a gas connection to the kitchen, we decided the most economical way to go was induction. We chose the Westinghouse black ceramic glass induction cooktop (60cm) – and let me tell you – my partner who formerly wanted a gas cooktop is now completely converted to induction cooking.

There’s just so many more clever features you get compared to a gas cooktop. For instance – there’s a PowerBoost button which accelerates the heating process, so you can go from cold water to boiling in a mere few seconds. There’s also a Pause function – so if you need to step away from the kitchen it will drop to Keep Warm mode and then when you come back you can hit Pause again and it will return to where you left off. Another great feature is that induction only heats the element when the pan/pot is on it. If you move it off it instantly stops heating – so clever!

And speaking of clever, our Westinghouse integrated rangehood in dark stainless steel (52cm) has a feature called Hob2Hood and is designed to work with the induction cooktop. So when you start cooking, the rangehood will turn on by itself when it senses steam. It then will intuitively turn the fan up or down depending on how much steam is coming up. It’s honestly the smartest appliance in our kitchen and I love that feature as sometimes when you’re busy cooking you forget to turn the rangehood on or adjust the speed to suit.

Now onto the oven – we chose the Westinghouse Electric Pyrolytic Multifunction Oven in dark steel (60cm). I love the contrast of the black oven against the white cabinetry and it ties in with our cooktop. But it’s not just the looks that caught my eye – it’s the many  features that drew me in. For starters it has PyroClean which means it can heat to a super high temperature and turn any grease and grime into ash – and then it’s a matter of simply wiping away.

It’s also got AirFry – a big tick from me! This is my favourite thing about the oven. When comparing how food comes out using normal fan forced compared to AirFry – things just crisp up better, for example home-made chips are more crunchy and golden. There’s also EasyBake + Steam function – the steam helps to give your food a better rise – great for baking cakes, pastries, breads etc.

Oh and did I mention it’s Australian made? Yep built in Westinghouse’s local Adelaide factory. Just another reason why I chose to go with Westinghouse. All appliances are available through Betta.com.au.
