How to Create a Cosy Winter Bedroom

On some days, those cold winter months never seem to end. We leave our houses in the morning when it’s dark, cosied up in a coat and scarf and come back in the evening only to do the same thing again the next day. It’s tiring and makes us really miss those 30+ degrees summer months.

A super cosy bedroom can help you to get through the winter blues. Snuggling up under blankets, pillows and quilts, reading a good book or listening to some music whilst drinking tea – all these things are so much more comfortable when it’s not 35 degrees outside.

Winter Bedroom Essentials

First and foremost, you need a good bed. One that’s big enough for at least two people but if your kids tend to sneak in during the night, you might want to invest in a king size mattress and frame.

Next on the agenda are an abundance of soft blankets and quilts. An electric blanket goes a long way, especially when it looks as great as the new sunbeam Sherpa fleece model! If you’re someone whose nose usually gets cold during the night, have a look at heated cushions that keep your head warm during the night. They’re certainly not everyone’s cup of tea but can work wonders for putting a grumbly child to sleep. Plus, they’re really great for back pain!

What about heating?

Some people swear they sleep better in colder conditions. You might or might not belong to them but even if you like sleeping at around 16-21 degrees, that temperature might not always be comfortable for watching a movie with the whole family or having story time before snuggling under the covers.

Have you ever tried reading a heavy book with your hands slowly getting deep frozen in the arctic conditions in your bedroom? Better to pre-heat your bedroom an hour or so before bedtime so it’s nice and cosy when you get in and can cool down during the night. Don’t forget to put the timer on so your heater turns on around 15 minutes before you have to get up in the morning – it makes a huge difference!

There are a few things to take into consideration when buying a new heater. Especially in a busy household, you’ll want one that turns off automatically when it’s tipped over or gets too hot. Not sure if a column heater or an electric one is best for you? Check out Betta’s Heating Buying Guide!
