Dishwashers

Take a look at our line-up of practically pleasing, stylish and energy efficient dishwashers. With many different designs and sizes available, there’s a Freestanding and Built in Dishwasher to complement your lifestyle and washing needs. Choose from a wide selection of dishwasher models from household brands including Fisher & Paykel , Westinghouse, LG, Haier and Beko.

Freestanding vs Built-In Dishwashers

Designed with its installation method and flexibility in mind, a Freestanding Dishwasher is able to be slotted in within most dishwasher nooks. Given their freestanding nature, Freestanding Dishwashers can also be stand alone in other areas, such as next to the benchtop as opposed to under it. A Freestanding Dishwasher can be removed so that you can take it with you when moving.

Built-In Dishwashers on the other hand, are meant to be installed snug in the dedicated dishwasher spot. Once installed, a built-in dishwasher is designed to look seamless and as part of the kitchen cabinetry, and not simply slotted in. Unlike Freestanding dishwashers, Built-In models cannot be removed and taken with you.

Dishwasher Efficiency

How Do I Choose the Most Efficient Dishwasher?

Ensuring that they are up to standard, dishwashers are tested for energy and water efficiency before receiving a rating. An Energy Rating rates the energy efficiency of a dishwasher, meanwhile the WELS label indicates at the water efficiency of the dishwasher.

As a guide, the higher the Energy and WELS rating, the greater the efficiency of the dishwasher. When purchasing a dishwasher, opt for a model that features an Energy and WELS rating of 3.5-Stars and above, with an easily accessible filter to help ensure routine maintenance.

Tips for Using a Dishwasher Efficiently

  • Only run your dishwasher when full, not when there’s a half load
  • Choose your cycle according to your needs, for example lower temperatures and shorter cycles are more efficient
  • Where possible, run the ‘eco’ or ‘energy saving’ cycle
  • If the dishwasher allows, instead of running the drying cycle, let dishes air dry
Clean the dishwasher filter regularly for optimal performance
  • Consider running your dishwasher during off-peak times like late at night to save on energy costs

Essential Dishwasher Features & Functions

  • Fast/Express Programs: for shorter wash cycles or smaller loads, run fast programs that will typically provide results in under an hour.
  • Hygienic /Steam Wash Cycle: the use of high water temperatures and steam during the wash helps to eliminate harmful germs and bacteria from dishes for healthier food prep, cooking and eating at home.
  • Flexible Baskets & Supports: enjoy greater flexibility of placement with customisable baskets and support features. Look out for height-adjustable baskets that lets you make more space for bulkier items and cookware, as well as glassware supports which keeps them in place for safer and breakage-free washing.
  • Fan Assisted Drying: by the use of an internal fan, dishwashers are able to deliver dried dishes after washing so you can pop them straight into your cupboards.
  • Tip: Keep an eye out for dishwashers that automatically open after a cycle to use air to naturally and efficiently enhance drying.
  • Delay Start: load now and schedule the wash cycle to run based on when you want it to finish. Great for when you want clean dishes, ready when you are – after you’ve come back from the shops or in time the next morning.

How To Install a Dishwasher

Some dishwashers, like Freestanding Dishwashers can easily be installed and set up yourself before use. If unsure, we always recommend that a licenced and experienced plumber installs the water connections and drain hoses of your dishwasher. Built-In Dishwashers will almost always require the expertise of a plumber and cabinetmaker to ensure that the dishwasher fits within the cabinetry of your kitchen.

Steps to Installing an Inlet and Drain Hose for your Dishwasher

  1. Make sure the dishwasher is switched off and disconnected from the power before installation.
  2. Ensure that the dishwasher is close to a water tap and drain.
  3. Installing the inlet: Thread the dishwasher’s hose through the cabinet’s cut out, checking that there’s no twists or bends.
  4. Connect and secure the water supply inlet hose to the water inlet tap. Then turn on the tap and check for leaks.
  5. To install the drainage hose, install into a sink drain pipe branch. Note: the branch should be above the trap so that the bend is at least 50mm above the floor.
  6. Use the dishwasher’s supplied drain hose and ensure that there’s no twists.
  7. Push the drain hose onto the spigot and secure with a clamp. If the drain is new, drill out the drain spigot.
  8. Both the inlet and drain hose is now connected and your dishwasher is ready to use!

  • Remove and clean the dishwasher filter on a regular basis: simply rinse in warm water and use a soft brush to scrub off collected particles
  • Run a dishwasher cleaning tablet or liquid every few months to clean the interior of the dishwasher
  • If not using cleaning tablets or liquids, run a hot wash cycle with a cup of vinegar on the top rack
  • Remove accessories like the cutlery basket or tray and scrub with a soft brush or toothbrush to remove any stuck-on food particles

FAQs

Whether dishwashers are worth it depends on who you ask. Busy, growing households with regular home cooking lifestyles will benefit from the time-saving results of dishwashers. Featuring advanced technologies and energy efficient motors, dishwashers are equipped to deliver washing results that help save time, effort and consumption of resources when compared to hand washing. Not only that, with more high temperature and steam enhanced washing programs, dishwashers are able to provide hygienic washing results that ensure peace of mind.

On average, dishwashers feature a 10-year life expectancy. A dishwasher used often may start to show signs of minor issues around the five-year mark, so it’s worth investing in careful cleaning and maintenance to keep the dishwasher in top shape. Check out cleaning tips above. Want greater peace of mind about your dishwasher’s life expectancy? Observe its warranty period. Most dishwashers will feature a warranty period of between 2 to 5 years. The longer the warranty, the greater your peace of mind as you’ll know that you’re covered for many years to come.

Put simply, dishwashers produce cleaning results that are much more hygienic than hand-washing. Since dishwashers have the ability to use hot water with incredibly high temperatures and effectively dissolve detergent, washing with a dishwasher will ultimately ensure greater peace of mind. For sanitary washing needs like cleaning storage jars, sterilising baby bottles, and removing germs and bacteria from dishes when there’s illness in the household, put your dishes in the dishwasher and let it run its course.
